A fundraising campaign to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma
A Message From Matthew Morton
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! Here is my Big Brothers Big Sisters story, and why I care so much about bringing this experience to the 100 Tulsa Littles waiting on a big.
Ambitious and I were matched in the Spring of 2009. At the time I was only 19, but was drawn to be a Big Brother because I enjoyed volunteering in high school. I wanted to make a difference in the life of someone else. Ambitious, 9, had a brother and sister in the program and was being raised by his single mother. He wanted a friend to do fun things with!
Early on, our "hangouts" mainly consisted of outdoor activities like fishing or going to a baseball game. While Ambitious was shy around other adults, he had no problem being outgoing and goofy when we were together. Even when I went away for college and he moved across town, we always made time to see each other. Some of our favorite memories together include trips to OU football games, and trying new foods for the first time.
As time went on, our relationship grew closer and conversations went from talking about video games to what Ambitious wanted to do in life. We became a part of each others family, attending birthday parties, graduations, and weddings. Although I moved to Tulsa in 2014, we keep in touch by text and always hang out when I visit Oklahoma City. Today Ambitious is no longer shy and wants to be a Physical Therapist!
Because of you, countless stories like this are written every day in Tulsa. YOU are changing lives for the better, forever
